    Default Drawing Circle

I'm using Adobe Illustrator 10.0.3. Windows XP Pro.

All I want to do is draw a circle. Simple?

I've read the on-line help. I've read the FAQ. Nada.

Ok, before you say "use the ellipses tool dummy" there's just one problem. There is NO ellipses tool on MY tool bar. Or Round Rec tool. And I can find anything on adding/subtracting items from the toll bar. Nothing in the Illustrator 10 Bible either.

So, where do I find the ellipses tool?

Click and hold on the Rectangle tool. It is underneath there.

    Or the shortcut, L

With the tool selected, hold the shift key while drawing the circle to make a circle and not a oval.

    or

With the tool selected, double click on the artboard and enter a dimension for the circle.

    Anthony,

    This is from online help:

To display hidden tools on-screen: Press a tool in the toolbox that has
hidden tools underneath it. (Tools that have hidden tools are identified
by a triangle in the lower right corner.)

    OK. That's really poorly worded.

Click and hold on the rectangle tool.

    Thanks all!

I called Adobe and they told me it was a "corrupted install" so I uninstalled. Then I couldn't find the cd to re-install. We just found the cd miss-filed in our software files so I'm going to re-install today. What a waste of time.

    Thanks again!

OK, I re-installed and found the "hidden tools". Sheez, I feel stupid!

Now for an other question: How do I get the tools to stay visable? In the Illustrator Bible they show both the rec an eclipsis at the same time?

    Anthony,

You can "tear off" any multi-tool strip to create a new mini-toolbar. While you're click-and-holding, move the pointer all the way to the right of the flyout until the little tearoff icon is highlighted. Then release the mouse click.

This is also explained in the manual and online help. See "Using the Tools."

Thanks Harron, I know I can tear off; that's not wnat I want to do.

In the Illustrator Bible the tool bar is shown with both the rectangle and elipsis toos ON the tollbar. How do I do that?

You cannot. The tools can be accessed by tearing off the sub-toolbar or clicking and holding on the tool's icon in the main toolbar. I suspect you are looking as a screen capture of the user useing the second method.

    Sorry I misunderstood, Anthony.

I agree with Scott. That must be a screen capture.
