Dreamweaver 8 announced today (part of Studio 8)
Hi guys,
I know that's a popular question, so here you go - the Dreamweaver 8
feature list:
http://www.macromedia.com/software/dreamweaver/productinfo/features/
To sum up, new features are:
- native integration of XML datasources (and visual XSL editing)
- improved CSS support (and rendering)
- better file transfers (in background - very useful for FTP sites)
- code editor improvements (code collapse, speed, coding toolbar)
- improved Word pasting (preserve formatting)
- ColdFusion 7 support and improved PHP 5 code hinting
You can find some reviews here:
- http://www.pcworld.idg.com.au/index.php/id;834660543;fp;2;fpid;1
In case you wonder why there are no upgrades in the server behaviors,
you could check this link out - we're offering ImpAKT for free for
people that upgrade from our site (file upload, send e-mail, form
validation and user login for PHP, ASP and ColdFusion)

Re: Dreamweaver 8 announced today (part of Studio 8)
I know that both InterAKT and other extensions developers are working
to provide compatibility versions of their extensions to Dreamweaver 8.
But let's not hijack this thread to an MX Kollection one, Dreamweaver 8
is a great product and I'd like to know how people feel about these new
features.

No Server-side deveopment disappointing.

Re: Dreamweaver 8 announced today (part of Studio 8)
There is improvements in the coding window with a new tool panel and
code collapse (which is quite cool). PHP5 is supported as well as CF7.0.
In terms of ASP we are pretty much at the end of its development cycle
for tools. It would have been nice to have seen some additional stuff in
the ASP.Net field but I guess we can't blame MM too much for that as the
2.0 framework is still in beta and won't be out until November.

Re: Dreamweaver 8 announced today (part of Studio 8)
Very disappointing indeed. I thought after a two year wait we were really
going to see something special. I see a bunch of fine tuning of existing
features which is nice, and some ho-hum new features.
I was really looking forward though to new server-side features like
server-side validation and stronger integration with server-side variables
etc, but there is no mention of anything server related other than PHP 5
code support.
Maybe I've been expecting too much from a 2 year development cycle? Seems
like a long time to me. Macromedia called DMX2004 an evolutionary upgrade
and this one seems to follow that same path. Seems like they've really put
their efforts into other products.
I've been checking macromedia's site every day for months now waiting for
this release. So maybe I overhyped the feature possibilities to myself,
maybe not. I'm sure many people will think it's fantastic.

It is as far as I am concerned. The improvements in CSS support and

area as I did with DMX04. Again though, sort of "evolutionary", building on
and improving on something they started in the last version.
But shouldn't things like multiple inserts, updates, deletes etc be
out-of-the-box by now? Have they included anything such as multi-table or
multi-database recordsets? Sounds like there is zero new database
interactions. Seems like they're really focusing on helping you make your
pages look better, than they are on enabling you to make your pages more
powerful.
I'm sure it has more features than what they've listed.

possible. Fortunately, DW 8 is eminently extensible and you'll find
extensions for everything imaginable from several developers.
If you have any specific requests in mind feel free to post them on one of

Re: Dreamweaver 8 announced today (part of Studio 8)

Frankly, I was among those who used to believe that each and every feature
should be built into the product but I realized later that it was not best
for the users. Imagine if DW included a shoping cart and made it difficult
to work with other, potentially better, shopping carts. If we look at DW as
a platform instead of a product that can do everything we can pick and
choose the best of the functionality we desire from several available
sources.
The UltraSuite extensions are completely compatible with DW 8. That said,> Does anyone know yet how well Dreamweaver 8 will play with existing
> extensions?
you'll see a lot of new MagicBeat (free) and UltraSuite (commercial)
extensions released specifically for DW 8.

Re: Dreamweaver 8 announced today (part of Studio 8)
I'm still a little disappointed in these two licensing items:
Can I install my copy of Dreamweaver 8 on Macintosh and Windows machines?
No. The end user license agreement for Dreamweaver 8 and related products
allows installation on either an Apple Macintosh or Microsoft Windows
platform. Macromedia does allow installation on a primary machine and a
secondary machine (home or laptop), but they must be the same platform.
If I install my copy of Dreamweaver on the Microsoft Windows platform first,
can I switch my license to the Apple Macintosh or vice versa?
When you activate Dreamweaver 8, you will have chosen your primary platform.
Once you have chosen the primary platform for your installation, all
subsequent installs must be on the same platform. Macromedia does not offer
cross platform upgrades at this time.
