DreamWeaver: JavaScript Capabilities - Macromedia Dreamweaver

Does anyone know if DreamWeaver will encounter any problems when attempting to display Javascript created outside of DreamWeaver? For example: a site that is created outside of DreamWeaver not being able to display the JavaScript elements when pulled into DreamWeaver to edit?...

    In general, it has been my experience that DW leaves any non-DW JS alone.
    However, it provides no interface for editing the script except by editing
    the code in the code view. When you select an object to which a non-DW
    script has been attached, the Behaviors palette will show something like
    "Custom Script: myScript ()" if "myScript" is the name of the non-DW script.
    You can delete the script from this palette, but that's all you can do via
    its interface.

    Thanks for your help, just have one question:

    For example: if a site contains a Javascript <if> statement to accomodate various monitor resolutions that contains a table holding the body text, you will be unable to edit the body text because it is coded into JavaScript that is not created within DreamWeaver? See attached code for my example:

    <script
    type="text/javascript" language="Javascript1.1">
    if (screen.width > 832)
    {
    doent.write ("<td align=\"left\" width=\"660\" valign=\"top\">");
    }
    else
    {
    doent.write ("<td align=\"left\" valign=\"top\">");
    }

    Amy:

    You would have no problem editing that at all from within DMX's code view.

    So the only way to edit that is in Code view. The reason why I am asking is because I work for a University and we are contemplating on switching our supported Web authoring software package. We need to make sure that those who have no "web knowledge" will be able to access their departmental site easily and make quick edits. But the way the pages are set up with the JavaScript containing the body text would require them to go into the code, and I am afraid that would be too complex for some people. Thanks so much for everyones help. I really appreciate it.

    okay- found the full page with google.

    i worked on that a while, on a hunch that you could wrap an opening td with
    <noscript><td></noscript> but dreamweaver won't render the contents of the
    cell...

    you probably should do that in the code anyway- people viewing the real
    page with javascript off see the page content just kind of plopped here and
    there, because the table syntax is wrong.

    (there's other table errors also- not just the doent.write tags)
