Default Dreamweaver Problems

I am going from Frontpage to Dreamweaver and have designed a few websites in
dreamweaver, but the last one that I designed didn't publish correctly. After
designing the site I viewed it in the browser and everything seemed to look ok,
but after publishing it all of the graphics didn't come in, even after
republishing several times. Question: when building a site, do I need to put
everything in its' separate fold? Such as photos and/or clip art in a image
folder, and the navigational buttons in its' own folder. With these things not
being in a specified folder, will this create a problem with the site. I
currently have all images in a image fold, but I am asking more about the
navigation buttons. Please respond ASAP. My email is compdsign7@aol.com

This usually means a) you didn't upload the graphics, or b) you didn't save
the files within a locally defined site before publishing them, causing the
image links to all point absolutely to your hard drive.

If you intend to continue using DW you will need to begin to look at your
code. A glance would have told you that your image links were broken.

You have complete freedom to put anything anywhere as long as it's within
the root folder.

I just began to get this error message:

?Dreamweaver cannot determine the remote server time.
The Select Newer and Synchronize commands will not be
available.?

And then when I click OK, it opens a ?blank? folder ... Meaning that the
folder that should contain the website, apparently has nothing in it.

This just began happening and is now happening with all the sites I had
previously been able to open just fine in Dreamweaver. (note: these sites open
fine in Frontpage, but I?m wanting to work on them in DW)

I searched through "technotes" to no result.

I?m using Dreamweaver MX (not yet upgraded to 2004)

Ahy help you can offer will be greatly appreciated.

Best,

Have you updated to DMX6.1? This is a critically important update.

The blank folder means that DW is not able to retrieve the remote file list
from the server, therefore it's not able to display them in the files panel.

Please try enabling Passive FTP for your site's definition. If that works,
then it strongly suggests that your firewall is interfering with DW's
ability to communicate with the server. What Firewall are you using?

Hurray.... thanks for that info.... the firewalll must have been the deal...

I travel a LOT and and last night was at a hotel on their high speed system,
and they must have had a firewall.... because today in a new hotel it is
working fine... so that must have been it.

The passive FTP thing... though is really good info... thanks so much.

best regards,

Chuck
