Dreamweaver Templates
I am having problems with Dreamweaver mx 2004 templates for entire Macromedia
site linking together.
My company bought me a Universal Macromedia license. This is the first time I
am trying to use Macromedia.
I am the only fulltime web programmer at this company. I am trying to use the
Macromedia code that the previous web programmer wrote. (If I am not able to
do it, a contractor will probably use "DEVNET" instead of Macromedia.)
I basically copied and pasted the other programmer's code to the harddrive of
my workstation. I have setup a macromedia site. I am using my own workstation
as the testing server since I am running IIS version #5.
When I run the navigation link checker for my entire site, I see there are
linkage problems with all the templates. What is the best way to solve my
problem?
Is there a way that I can copy this code from the previous employees
workstation to my own and not have these linkage problems? Or should I follow
the directions on how to fix each problem link?
Thanks for your help!

Re: Dreamweaver Templates
I don't understand the question. What linkage problems are you seeing for
the Templates?
What is DEVNET?> do it, a contractor will probably use "DEVNET" instead of Macromedia
Anyhow, I don't understand the question. What linkage problems are you

If you copy the site's local root folder from the previous workstation and> Is there a way that I can copy this code from the previous employees

paste it onto yours, the site and its functionality should be fine.

dreamweaver templates
I am basically new to using Dreamweaver mx 2000 within the last couple of
months. I am supporting a web site that was written by someone that no longer
works for this company. This web application was written using classic asp
(vbscript) using Dreamweaver mx 2000.
The problem is the background color that is being displayed. The background
color of the web site is correct on a test server but it is not correct when it
runs under IIS 5.0 on my work station. The area that determines where the
colors are setup are written with dreamweaver templates and cascading style
sheets.
This website originally had the correct background color when it ran on my
workstation, but it is incorrect right now.
I copied all the files from the test web server to my workstation and the
background color is still incorrect.
Can you make suggestions on what I can look for?

dreamweaver templates
I have been a web entry level programmer for only about six months right now.
The web application that I am supporting was written by another person using
Dreamweaver MX 2000. The person that wrote the application is no longer with
the company.
The problem that I am having are colors that are displayed. This web
application has been setup so far for 3 clients that have their own unique sets
of colors. What happens is that I go and work on the web pages for one client
for awhile. I then go to work on another clients web pages, and I get a mix of
the two clients colors on different parts of their web pages.
The web pages are basically the same shell. Each clients website uses the
same Dreamweaver tewmplates. These templates are writen using CSS and html.
Each client's website obtain its unique colors from the CSS Dreamweaver
templates.
These web sites are written in classic asp (vb script) and dictionary objects
keep track of data for each thread. I know this applcation has cookies, but I
do not know what these cookies are used for. I have deleted the cookies from my
internet browser in case something is saved by the browser. However this does
not help.
I do not have any idea of what to look for to see what is causing the
problems. Let me know what you suggest.
Thnaks!

dreamweaver templates
I need some help please.
I have created a template. and from that template saved it as an html file.
the file views fine in dreamweaver but when I view it in explorer all the
images and stylesheet are broken?
Is this because:
- something is wrong within the template file (which btw loads fine in
dreamweaver and has all the images etc)
- i saved the html incorrectly?
- i am having a completely stupid moment?
any help would be appreciated...

Re: dreamweaver templates
You are using templates incorrectly. You do not save a DWT file with a new
extension. You use the DWT file to create a new child page which can then
be saved. Check your F1 Help about how to create new pages from templates.

Re: Dreamweaver Templates
I had the same problem and tried all kinds of things to get it working
efficiently, but the only method I found, so I must assume this is how it's
supposed to be, was this:
Step 1: synchronize my local files in Dreamweaver with the remote site, making
sure that "Get newer files from remote" was the 'Direction'. This downloads all
the files, either for your entire site or any folder you had selected when
starting the sync, to your local area.
Step 2: rather than 'check-in' or 'put' the template to your remote server,
first SAVE the file locally (Ctrl+S or File > Save). This initiates a dialog
which asks if you want to update files that use this template. Say Yes. I
found that only by saving the template first would Dreamweaver ask me to update
files using it. If I used 'put' or 'check-in' this dialog would not appear,
even though part of this check-in process is to save the template.
step 3: (the tedious part) locate all the files that were updated with the
changed template (use the update dialog details section for the list) and check
those files and the template in to your remote site.
I hope that helps, but if you ever find a better way, please PLEASE let me
know hehe.. I have 1500 files using one template, and about 12 templates in
total, which makes for a lot of checking out and checking in for each template
change (though thankfully my templates should rarely change)

Re: Dreamweaver Templates
DW templates are DW run-time tools only. This means that they have no
function on the server.
It's a tedious process, but you must be
systematic -
* have the client up-synch all files
* down-synch your local site
* make template changes and let them propagate
* up-synch
* notify client that it's safe to work on the site again
Wish it were easier myself....
