drop down menu, an idea i have

I have a sidenav that has maybe 6 categories. Each one of these has a
subcategory, but i dont want to do a typical side-popout. Instead, i am thinkg
about this: as you roll over one of these categories, the subcategories will
push the rest of the sidenav down and appear between the two main categories.
for example:

Art
Video
Picture
School

hovering over art would show this:

Art

past
present
future

Video
Picture
School
