Re: Drop Shadow
If it is applied by an Effect go to the appearance palette select the drop shadow effect and then delete it by clicking on the trash can at the bottom of the palette.
If it is a filter select the shadow with the direct select tool and hit delete, puff gone!

Re: Drop Shadow
Good one, Wade, I've been in the habit of pasting a copy behind and putting the shadow on that.

Drop shadow
Is it possible to add a drop shadow to one line of text within a text box and then make it either a para or character style?

Re: Drop shadow
No, that is not possible, you can only attach drop shadow to complete page
items.

Re: Drop Shadow
If the drop shadow is part of the placed graphic (ie, wasn't generated directly in ID) you'll have to open the original placed graphic in the program that created it (one one that can import it). ID is generally not able to edit the graphics that it can place on the page. Otherwise, Adobe can just come out with a single piece of software and title it Adobe AcroInDePhotoStrator. :)
If the drop shadow was generated by InDesign (ie, by right-clicking or choosing it from the Object menu) simply choose drop shadow again, and it will come up with the current settings pre-loaded in the dialog box.
Hope that helps,
Clay

Re: Drop Shadow
AcroInDePhotoStrator
Ooh, that sounds good but instead they did an even better job and provided us with CS.
If the drop shadow was generated by InDesign (ie, by right-clicking or

it will come up with the current settings pre-loaded in the dialog box.
If it wasn't, you can right click the graphic with the selection tool and choose edit original.

Drop shadow
G5 mac
CS2
I have never tried drop shadow around the edge of photograph in InDesign, but how good is it compare a version created in Photoshop and which is better for real world printing in CMYK.

Re: Drop shadow
Not totally true. ID won't honor blend modes of drop shadows on placed
PSD files.

Re: Drop shadow
Bob,
I just did a brochure and all my PSD's with drop shadows placed in ID fine? I thought that was one of the great things about CS2 (maybe CS1 too, I am not sure) that you can just dropped a transparent or clipped PSD image into ID without a clipping path and it is A-OK, as well as the drop shadows.

Re: Drop shadow
It's the blend mode that's the problem.
Quick example:
Transparent PSD with a 30% black drop shadow set to multiply. Place that
over a 100% yellow background in ID and the result should be 35% black
and 100% yellow if the multiply blend mode was honored.
Instead what you wind up with is 30% black and 70% yellow.

Re: Drop shadow
The Photoshop drop shadow will have Normal transparency in InDesign, regardless of the setting for the effect. The InDesign shadow can have Multiply (the default) transparency, which will always darken the underlying colour. a 60% gray shadow on 90% gray will be 60% with Normal transparency and about 96% with Multiply transparency.
Also, an Object Style can be defined in InDesign to have a specific drop shadow setting. That style can be applied to any photos, text frames, imported art, or objects drawn in InDesin with complete consistency. Further, a scaled Photoshop image will have its shadow scaled, but not any InDesigh shadows applied, making for further consistent appearance.
Conclusion: InDesign's shadows are more versatile because the transparency mode can be set and global attributes are more available and consistent.
