DROP SHADOW PREFERENCES
Is it possible to set the preferences on drop shadows so that they remain there?
E.G. Next time InDesign is started the prefered settings are still there.

Re: DROP SHADOW PREFERENCES
With no document open, just set the drop shadow the way you want.

Re: DROP SHADOW PREFERENCES
Yes. Just set them with no documents open.
Note though that this is a per-docment setting, so the default for any existing document is already set the way you left it the last time you used that document.
To change the default in a document, change the settings with nothing selected.
You have to switch shadows on to change the settings, but when you switch it off again your changed settings will stick.
Dave
PS: This is how the vast majority of InDesign's defaults and preferences are managed -- and exception is the table defaults. They are preconfigured and can't be changed.

object having a drop shadow, and no way of inheriting those defaults in
preexisting documents.
I've been hoping Adobe would add styles to the drop shadow menu (similar to
the Quark XTension Shadowcaster), but until then ALAP's InEffects does the
job nicely - with a 1-click floating pallette.
(Which of course can be used for more than just Shadow styles.)

I guess you didn't read my message, Jerry.
Switch it on to change the values then switch it off before closing the dialog.

Re: DROP SHADOW PREFERENCES
Hello.
First post of a longtime reader.
At least for me this method works only for some objects. In fact, it appears to have effect only on objects created with "Rectangle/Ellipse/Polygon Tool". Newly created text or image frames have always "factory defaults" (offset: 7pt, 7pt; blur: 5).
Or is that by design?
If yes, I find it rather bizarre choice.

Holger,
I recommend posting a bug report on that.

Re: DROP SHADOW PREFERENCES
Hi Dave,
Can I assume, that you are having the same results?
It's truly surprising, that such an obvious glitch (at least in my eyes) has not been discovered for quite long.
Will post the report.

Re: DROP SHADOW PREFERENCES
Yes, I did get the same result. I can see how it might be "logical" that it works this way. Text frames and Image frames don't take on the document defaults when they're created; rather, they use the factory defaults of no stroke/no fill. It looks to me that the engineers simply took this "factory defaults" assignment too far.
