Drop shadows not totally Transparent - Adobe Illustrator Windows

I have a few placed photos on top of another placed photo background and have put dropshadows in Illustrator CS2 behind the topmost photos. They look good on screen, but when printing them I can see a opaque box that has the drop shadow in it so it doesn't look right. Any suggestions to make the shadow totaly transparent? Thanks...

Effect>Doent Raster Effect Settings> Halfway down the box, Background radio button, "Transparent" (In CS, I'm assuming CS2 is similar).

I have that checked already. That is why I am puzzled. Thanks though.

    Steve:

I'm afraid you're running into a problem then that occurs frequently and that I haven't seen a satisfactory answer to, other than "rasterize the whole schmear". It seems that the problem (semi-transparent ghost boxes) is worse when different color modes are mixed, but it happens a lot where effects are used. I for one would like to see a good fix, but I don't know of one.
