    Default DST Upgrade Troubles

We have a Windows 2003 server (fully patched) with IIS6 that has to be upgraded
for DST. The box has a 7.0.0 multi-server install with 7 instances. Our
strategy on the multi-server was to load CFMX 7.0.1 updater, then CFMX 7.0.2
updater, then JRUN4 Updater 6, then load JDK 1.4.2_13. We had to repoint the
JVMs to the new JRE as they were pointed to the default which was an earlier
version. We did this by first applying the new location to the admin instance
under the JRUN4 Manager and then to the JVM_x.config files as the JRUN setting
tweaks failed to populate all instances with the correct address. The Cold
Fusion upgrade also repointed us to a different location for CFIDE so we had to
repoint CFIDE to allow our sites to come up.

After doing all this and rebooting the box, we got a clean DstDates.cfm run
with good versions for everything. However, we lost the Instance Manager. We
now get the following error in the Instance Manger frame:

We have no clue as to why we lost the Instance Manager. We suspect it may
have to do with our CFIDE problem but that is just speculation since it is the
only area where we had problems. Our websites come up and we can get the
individual Cold Fusion Administrators for all of our instances. But the
    Instance Manager is dead.

We could sure use some ideas as we have 8 more single server upgrades to do
before Saturday and we are not all that eager to move forward until we clear
this trouble. Did we screw up the sequencing? Is there something we missed?

    Any help is appreciated!!

Do you mean just copying it over? We have one functional install on a single
server we upgraded the other day. We could copy the folder over. What about
cfdocs? Does it play any role? Do we need to bring that over as well?

Just copying over CFIDE should solve this problem.
Be sure to make a backup first (or rename the original to CFOLD).

I am doing the file transfer now. It will take an hour or so to come across

    OK here we go again...

We just ran 7.0.1 and 7.0.2 on one of our single server Win 2003 servers. We
then loaded jdk1.4.2_11, pointed Cold Fusion to the new jre and got all No's on
dstdates.cfm. We loaded JDK1.4.2_13 repointed and voila... No, Yes, Yes, Yes,
    No

So we do NOT think that JDK1.4.2_11 is compliant. Use JDK1.4.2_13

Just as a point of clarification:

    I'm running 7.0.2 with Win2K SP4.

Do I need to run the JRun Updater 6 prior to pointing CF to JDK 1.4.2_13? or
just point JDK 1.4.2_13 and DST should be good to go...right now, Win2K has DST
applied and looks good but any CF-derived time is 1 hour slow. (Pre-DST time).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

On our multi-server install we did CF first followed by JRun and then Java.
We pointed everything to the newJRE location. We had to update the jvm.config
files for each instance manually. Then of course 45 minutes before we were
supposed to go home for the weekend, we got notice that the Java fix was broken
and we had to install the TZUpdater patch on all the machines..

I thought that all these companies did a pretty poor job of handling this time
change. Poor coding, poor notification, and poor instructions all led to a lot
of last minute scrambling. I was not impressed.

Check your jvm.config file and make sure it is pointing to the correct JRE with
the right kind of slashes in the address. Also make sure that you installed
the FULL SDK because there is a -server switch in there that is necessary.

Check your server install manual to make sure you didn't change your basic
settings. There are some threads in the forum that deal with install
configuration where the admin page doesn't come up. You can find them pretty
easily by scanning the threads or doing a search. The CF Upgrade should not
have altered your basic configuration so I suspect that you need to get that
jvm.config straightened out. But it is hard to say as I don't know exactly
    what you did.

    FIGURED IT OUT:

JVM installation installed path /client/jvm.dll where CFMX7 expects
    /server/jvm.dll.

Created server directory and copied jvm.dll to it, started service and all is
    well.

Now the scary part...updating the production server...

    Thanks for your assistance...
