DTD not detected?
Hi,
My DTD is: <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01//EN">
It appears Dreamweaver 8 doesn't recognise this DTD. Why not?
The w3.org html validator recognises the DTD and considers it valid HTML.

Re: DTD not detected?
It's not a complete doctype - it needs the URI part, too. IE6 will enter
quirks mode when it sees it.

Re: DTD not detected?
According to http://gutfeldt.ch/matthias/articles/doctypeswitch/table.html an URI is only required for Frameset and Transitional versions, which I'm not using.

Re: DTD not detected?
They are wrong.
IE will render the page in Quirks mode unless the URI is present.

Re: DTD not detected?
Is there a way to check whether IE is using quirks mode?
Even http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnie60/html/cssenhancements.asp says IE won't use quirks mode.

Re: DTD not detected?
I see what you are saying. Sorry for the confusion. It seems to be DW that
is confused.
What is it you are seeing DW do with that doctype that it shouldn't do?
