    return the apple unit and get something else. doesn't matter which one
    really - they are all pretty much the same, just make sure its 802.11b
    (or g but that costs a little more and you don't need it with an old
    airport card anyway).

    there are some minor feature differences but i wouldn't worry about it
    that much. find something on sale with a rebate; you should be able to
    find something well under $100, if not less. i've seen them as low as
    $30 after rebates.

    Thanks for the input folks. Despite the opportunity to save
    money with another brand product, I used Greg Sigman's idea
    and had an Apple Genius at the Woodfield store configure
    the base station and I'm now home happily using it. After 19 2/3
    years of being a Apple guy, I'll stick with them but am
    still not ready to again mess with OS X.anything.
