Default DualBootPC Monitor list not active FH10,or 9 win2Kprof

    Hi,
How widespread is this problem ?

Unable to start using FH10 or 9 come to that in win2K, and FH10 in win98 as colour calibration lists not selectable anymore. Only FH9.0.0 with 9.0.2 patch working under win98 as is good old FH7 !, 9.0.2 CD fails.

    Story:-

Having installed my FH10.0.1 onto my new dual boot pc under win2kprof, (its Win98 Cdrive and Win2Kprof E drive ), I go Edit>Preferences>Color>Kodak Digital Science (as opposed to Color Tables) and click setup, now to choose my monitor from icm drop down list, but I cannot, it just says Default.
Even the composite printer list dropdown just says default, cant even choose that anymore.

Perhaps its programmed to look in C:\WINNT\system32\spool\drivers\color and not to notice which drive its installed to, which in my case is E drive, so I create an address on C drive as above and copypaste the icm profiles into that, but still no joy after reboot. Unless a simple copypaste doesnt quite do whats necessary, but icm's can be simply pasted ? Those on C drive were installed via controlPanel>display route.

Previous to this I had the same problem with FH9.0.2 from also a purchased CD. Problem both on Win98 and win2k and the same new pc. Tried uninstalling it on win98 and using a FH9.0.0 cd and BINGO !!! monitor list available, loaded 9.0.2 patch and still ok. So perhaps a duff 9.0.2 CD ?

Tried a reinstall of 9.0.2 CD on win2k just incase it was install, no joy. So knowing 9.0.0 works on win98, I uninstall it and use the 9.0.0 CD with great confidence, BUT NO JOY ???? !!!!

    What goes on here ?

Would installing via safe mode fix this ?
Is it a dual boot problem ?..anyone dual boot with this ?

Is it Freehand or what ?..and why the partial success with 9.0.0

Vital to get this fixed as unable to evaluate FH10 and my new pc befpre going operational without it. Being unable to choose printer or monitor messes up colour calibration and existing colour charts and also work I must reprint from time to time. Also no good for working between two pc's (other win98 will be win2k soon) as I do.

Shall try FH9 and FH10 on another pc just to see !

Try copying the desired profiles, but no unneeded ones, into the ICM folder
found inside of the FreeHand application folder on youf W2k installation.

Default Re: DualBootPC Monitor list not active FH10,or 9 win2Kprof

    David,
Thanks very much indeed for the tip, it puts monitors and printers back into the drop down list, very relieved as was a non starter otherwise ! , ...but is this a known issue ?
Was it a deliberate design change to have Freehand look in its own icm folder rather than the usual address pc's use ?
I must say the situation is a little fragile as illustrated below.
You mention only using the profile that you require, can you explain why that is ?

I have been testing FH9, FH9.0.2 and FH10.0.1 under both win98 and win2k, these results for color folder match my findings prior my first mailing so no change there.

FH9.0.2cd Win98 using Color folder...no monitor or printer lists
FH9.0.2cd Win98 using ICM folder...no monitor or printer lists
    FH9.0 Win98 using Color folder...LIST SHOWS
FH9.0 Win98 using ICM folder...LIST SHOWS (with color folder empty*, ok with 4mon and 7print)
    FH10.0.1 Win98 using Color folder...LIST SHOWS
FH10.0.1 Win98 using ICM folder.....LIST SHOWS (color folder empty*)

    FH9.0.2cd Win2K using Color folder...no lists
FH9.0.2cd Win2K using ICM folder...LIST SHOWS (ok at least up to 6 Epson paper profiles)
    FH9.0 Win2K using Color folder...no lists
    FH9.0 Win2K using ICM folder.....LIST SHOWS
    FH10.0.1 Win2K using Color folder...no lists
    FH10.0.1 Win2K using ICM folder.....LIST SHOWS

*an srgb icm is put there by pc, guess system needs at elast one there.

Odd why FH10 and FH9 works on Colour folder in win98 but not win2K !...why is this ?

Ref Instability, I tried 1 monitor icm and one Epson paper icm into the ICM folder and success, then lists failed when I tried having two monitor icm's in the folder. So assumed 1 monitor was limit. BUT LATER I have been able to put 4 monitors into the FH9.0.2 icm folder, all were the profiles to be found loaded on via windows install, when I added one created in Adobe gamma lists failed and FH woudnt launch.
So I tried this icm on its own, and success, the lists returned, then I added a Mitsubishi Diamond icm, still okay, then added those others back in, and STILL OKAY.!!!!!!
This is typical of how glitchy it is, its as if certain icm profiles upset the apple cart, both icm and monitor, and when upset the list vanishes or FH won't launch, but later on they are ok.

Tried a mass copy-paste of those that are found in Colour folder for printers, list failed.

SO WHAT ARE THE RULES OF THE GAME, IF KNOWN ? Is it that some icm's we find existing already on pc's are trouble when introduced into the icm folder or colour folder, is the order of introduction to blame, I can find no pattern.

    Steve
