Duplicating Buttons
When I duplicate buttons, changes in the text of one of the buttons
affects all of the buttons, even if I select the "Do not update other
button states" option. Any way to get the buttons to act independantly
of each other other than making a whole new button?
Thanx

Change the text in the Property inspector, not in the Button editor.

Re: Duplicating Buttons
Right. But the problem is that when I view the button in the "Button
Editor" it still shows the "original" text. Very wierd! This is making
the process of creating a couple of simple rollover buttons a very
agravating experience.

are you opening it in the button editor? Once the original button is
finished, there's no reason to open it in the Button editor again unless
you want to make changes to the graphic, not the text. Editing the text
of instances (copies) of the original is supposed to be done in the
Property inspector.

Re: Duplicating Buttons
Well I open the button in the button editor because the "new" text may
"overflow" the button and therefore the button needs to be resized or
the text repositioned. Some of the buttons have more than just a word
or two of text. It would seem that any new buttons should reflect any
text changes regardless of how they are viewed. Maybe I'm missing
something here but it would seem that the button editor would show the
text changes. I seem to recall that in FW4 (I'm using MX now, on a
Mac) this was the case.
Thanx

Re: Duplicating Buttons
The "button editor" shows a single instance of the button with text that you
define only in the button editor. The text shown on the button in the
editor has no relation to any text shown on your document, including button
text. If you change the text in the button editor, it will not update text
in the instances of the button you put onto your document. If you change
text in a button instance on your document, it will not change the text in
the button editor.
The text in the button editor is "sample" or "dummy" text. Use your longest
text string probably, to ensure you have enough room on your button. You
change the text on each single button instance after you drag those
instances onto your canvas. The button editor only updates the appearance
of your button, not the actual text of it.
