Dust & Digital - Photography

When speaking to a Camera Repairman/Tech the other day, he said that he was getting lots of business cleaning the CCD's for Pro's. In a couple of other digital forums this appears to be an issue. Has anyone on this list had experience with dust on sensor? -- Regards David Entwistle com "Make sure you stand for something or you will fall for anything" - Anon....

All the time ... and I would recommend against ever using those compressed
air cans ... non residue or not they can (and have) damaged CCD's. Our
Fuji had to go off for a visit to the doc after the well meaning tech at
Teds suggested such a maneuver ...

    Anyone buy those swabs locally?

Nope - refused to pay the amount on asking by local dudes. Placed an order
with Adorama. Got the Eclipse and Swabs for about the same price as the
    swabs alone in Aus.

Perhaps it's as Ken said... it's something to do with the Canons design that
lends itself well to air?? Between myself and my photographer mates we have
all used compressed air for a number of years on a number of D2000, DCS560,
    D60, 10D & 1Ds without issue.

Do you have a URL? We have massive dust problems which I fell are not
because of the type of camera but the multiple lense changings occuring in
    high wind/dust/airplanewash locations :o)

Mind you, that's what the 2nd camera was for .. so he didn't have to change
the lenses on the fly :o)

    Grounds to sue perhaps?

I am afraid I have used the last of my can and chucked it out :-(

I normally buy from Ted's on the Gold Coast... Ted's have stores Aust. wide
(well sort of) and I would imagine that they all sell the same brand,
perhaps you could give them a call.

I would like to get some in case I need to clean my sensor in the near
future and I have heard that some brand of so-called "non-residue"
canned air is not in fact fully non-residue.

    Thanks
