Default DW and CSS

The basic format for the CSS document produces

/* CSS Document */

<style type="text/css" >

body {
margin: 0px;
padding: 0px;
font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: xx-small
}

</style>

the first command is always ignored, so I have to include it twice and this
fails in the W3c validator. http://jigsaw.w3.org/css-validator/validator

Parse error - Unrecognized : <style type="text/css"> body { margin: 0px;
padding: 0px; font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size:
xx-small }

Surely this is basics?

Default Re: DW and CSS

The basic format for a CSS document (FILE | New > CSS) is this -

/* CSS Document */

Anything else in there is added by you. In your case, you have added HTML
to the CSS document -

<style type="text/css" >

and

</style>

and that's incorrect syntax.
> the first command is always ignored, so I have to include it twice
What?

Of course. You cannot have HTML in a CSS document.

It should look like this -

/* CSS Document */

body {
margin: 0px;
padding: 0px;
font-family: Verdana, Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;
font-size: xx-small
}
