DWMX Crashes when I try to Define a site - Macromedia Dreamweaver

I have been working with DWMX for months now. Hello all Dreamweaver is crashing constantly when I am trying to define a site. (all my site definations are gone as I was told to try deleteing my DWMX preferences). I am running OSX 10.2.6 on a G4 tower I get the warning with a big Blue "i" Saying "The Application Dreamweaver has unexpectedly quit. The System and other applications have not been affected" I cannot open any sites and use dreamweaver. The Crash log in the Mac OSX system profiler said "Date/Time: 2003-07-15 12:25:39 +0100 OS Version: 10.2.6 (Build 6L60) ...

    Patrick:

It will slow DMX down. But I have two major questions for you -

    1. Have you tried to just recreate the cache?
    2. What is causing your cache to become corrupt? Are you saving local
files on a remote network shared drive? Is more than one developer sharing
    your files?

    Thanks for replying Murray,
I have not tried to recreate the site cashe, as 1/ I would have no idea how to do so and 2/ I'm pretty sure that when I trashed my DWMX preferences that it is now gone. as all my site definitions are gone on my Mac at work.

How do I recreate the site cashe?

I am saving my files on my local hard drive and then checking them in to our local server
There are two of us working on the site, my self (design on OSX 10.2.6) and our Code guy (Working on windows ?? )who is not having any problems. files are checked in and checked out using DWMX

    Thanks In Advance

    Patrick:

If your site definitions are gone, then the cache is gone too. Recreating
the site definition will force DMX to rebuild the cache. You can also do it
by SITE | Recreate Site Cache menu option.
    > files are checked in and checked out using DWMX
Just to be sure I understand you - you both have a local copy of the site
and are only sharing the remote site by way of DMX and Checkin/checkout?

No idea if this will help, but here goes. I had the same problem with DW using Windows 2000. Turns out that the World Wide Web Publishing Service (part of IIS) was hung up on starting. I changed the mode to manual, shut down, restarted and then manually started the service using the windows control panel administrative tools. That cured the problem.

Perhaps there is a similar component in the Mac OS that is hung up.

Default Re:DWMX Crashes when I try to Define a site

I have found a solution to the problem, but not the cause. As stated before in this thread, While having a certain site open, the DWMX application would crash unexpectdly in MAC OSX 10.2. As this was a very large and dynamic site with several prople working on it rebuilding the site from scratch was not really an option - that was the advise given to me from Macromedia Telephone Support and it was not really of any use to anyone trying to solve a problem like this one.

What I did was to indvidually import each page into a new empty site I had created. My goal was to kind out if there was any 1 page causing the problem. As it turned out it was so, and when I reported that to my workmates working on different PC in a windows enviroment, when they too opened the problem page, DWMX crashed for them too, but only when the page was accessed. So that told me it was that Page doing the damage. If the page is in the site folder, opened or not the mac crashes.

What I did on my mac, was to open the page in the MAC application Textedit, erase all the code and save it. I was then able to reopen my original site, and only had to recreate 1 page. If you want it, Macromedia, I have included the code. Maybe you could shed some light on the situation. the page was never edited in anything other than DWMX.

I tried to attach the (offending) file but was unsucessfull. I have it backed up here.
