DWX-6.1 - HowTo Lock template editable region? - Macromedia Dreamweaver

I am attempting to discover how to lock a template editable region in DW-MX 6.1 since only the locked regions will update to daughter pages. In my search I found the two URLs that purport to discuss this issue. However both provide information that is faulty. in the URL [url]http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/templates/dwfw_templates_tutorial/dwfw_templates_tutorial05.html[/url] it says in step 6 "6 To lock an editable region, choose Modify > Templates > Unmark Editable Region. Select the name of the region you want to lock in the Unmark Editable Region dialog box, and click OK." There is no 'Unmark Editable Region' option so this doesn't work. ...

Default DWX-6.1 - HowTo Lock template editable region?

I am attempting to discover how to lock a template editable region in DW-MX 6.1 since only
the locked regions will update to daughter pages. In my search I found the two URLs that
purport to discuss this issue. However both provide information that is faulty.

    in the URL
    [url]http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/templates/dwfw_templates_tutorial/dwfw_templates_tutorial05.html[/url]
    it says in step 6
"6 To lock an editable region, choose Modify > Templates > Unmark Editable Region. Select
the name of the region you want to lock in the Unmark Editable Region dialog box, and click OK."

There is no 'Unmark Editable Region' option so this doesn't work.

    In the URL
    [url]http://www.macromedia.com/support/dreamweaver/ts/doents/nestededitable.htm[/url]
In the section on locking an entire region in step 7 it says
"7 Add the following code to the editable region code:
    (" ")

Note: This template code can be placed anywhere within
    the <!-- InstanceBeginEditable --><!-- InstanceEndEditable --> tags. "

When I do this the tag does _not_ turn orange and when I try to save the template it says
there is an error and the structure of (" ") is not allowed in an editable region.

Both these pages are offering bad information and I am still in the dark with no place to
turn to discover how to make my editable regions locked. The whole reason I went to
templates in the first place was to make regions that I could update from one source, the
idea is nice but I'm having trouble "getting there from here" <g> It is probably obvious that
I'm no DW wizard so assume large amounts of ignorance on my part.

If there is some other page that I'm not finding in my search that has such information,
please advise as to its URL.

    Thanks,
    Alan D.

just to check on what the problem is--

    do you understand this concept?
    a) Editable regions are where the UNIQUE content for each page goes. The
contents of an editable region will NOT be changed when the parent template
is changed- (Because to do so would ruin the unique content that's been
    entered)

    b) EVERYTHING else in the template that is not an Editable region, Is
LOCKED. And will be copied as is to the child pages (of course, any paths
    and links will be managed)

I'm guessing you created the original templates in "reverse"- thinking the
Editable regions were places you could edit the content from the templates,
and have it update in all child pages???

I would have to see several pages to make any suggestions on what to do so
the templates are useful, and no content is lost.

The easiest Way is to do the following

First find the edible region you want to remove
    next right click on it.
slide down to remove tag mmtemplate.editable and click on that and that
should remove it and then update your pages.
When updating you will see you need to resolve just use NOWHERE and that
will work. Note this will erase all data in all pages that used the editable
    region

Default Re: DWX-6.1 - HowTo Lock template editable region?

Considering you are a little confused by the Macromedia docs, why not try
    looking at our product,
    [url]http://www.decloak.com/Products/Dreamweaver/NestedTemplates/[/url]

It has an instruction manual that walks you through the examples and is
has a FEW sections on what you are looking for:

    (1) specifically complete automatic updating of web pages from a single
    point...

    (2) Appendix A, Page 76, there is a section on the ("") code.

Anyway, its got a FREE download. Why don't you give it a look?
