Dye Sublimation vs. Inkjet - Photography

I have an older Epson Photo Stylus printer (1st "photo" model to come out) and I'm thinking of replacing it with something a little more state-of-the-art, any opinions on these two formats? I know that the bigger Dye Sublimation printers are very spendy, but I'm mainly interested in selling high quality postcards and I have seen some small DS printers within my budget. Thanks! -- Ray ( www.rayspace.com ) ------------------------------------------- "I'd rather wake up in the middle of nowhere, than in any city on earth" - Steve McQueen...

Consider one of the new HP-Photosmart printers, which use
"thermal inkjet" technology, a sort of inkjet/dye sublimation
hybrid which produces fantastic results. True dye-sub printers
still cost a fortune and, IMHO, they aren't worth the price.
The low-cost ALPS were an interesting experiment, but dealing
with their color tapes (prone to breakage much more so than
the old cassette tape) was too much of a hassle (not to mention
    the outrageous cost.)

What are you going to put on the back?

Curious about whether or not you can write or print on the back of a DS
    printed card.
Will a customer need to use a special pen to write on the back?

I wonder if inkjet printing will stand up in the retail enviro to the oils
and moisture transferred by normal handling/shopping/browsing?

    Sorry; more questions than answers.

But they are good questions! I guess I was hoping that there was postcard
blanks available with the usual postcard printing on the back (address
lines, a place for the stamp, etc.) and I do know what you mean about
people handling them, we all do that when we're looking through postcards.
Perhaps I should do another post asking about this. Thanks for your
    comments!

the canon CP300 I think is a Dyesub ... some what inexpensive
and you can get postcard paper for it. according to this link
they put a protective coating on top of the printed image ... never really
tried it though so I hope you will post your results once you are
    finish with your research.
