Dynamic output of <LINK> - ASP.NET General

This isn't limited to LINK tags, IMG and INPUT tags are also forbidden to have closing tags in HTML. Yet .net controls generate those. That's exactly a reason why I prefer not to use ASP.NET's server controls, because they simply do not render valid HTML (and IE won't handle XHTML, particularly CDATA sections, which would solve a lot of issues). Hi Jerry,

Thanks for illuminating. Whoa! You're right the <input> tag has "forbidden"
remark in HTML reference. But Visual Studio generates it, does not destroy
it and dot net framework does it and ie uses it. netscape 4.7x and mozilla
does not kick up a fuss.

    Hmmm. Does XHTML support this?

But the reason I am going to asp.net is BECAUSE of the enhanced
    functionality with the Form Elements.

    Ananda;
    although it's bad that VS.net doesn't conform to W3C, the "non-conforming"
    solution will be
rewrtitng the LINK tag and adding an ID to it as well as runat="server" then
you'll be able to access it from page_load using it's id. and yes..we have
    to close the damn tag!

XHTML must be a valid XML doent so all tags need to be closed (even empty
ones such as BR, it has to be <br />) and there's no crossing allowed (no
    more <u><i>Underlined italic</u></i>).

And Mozilla will ignore most of these as long as you don't use strict
doctype in your HTML. I just don't think it's a good idea to generate
invalid markup and call it HTML, imagine if your compiler would be ignoring
your errors and generate code it thinks you were trying to create ;)
