Here is a good list of carts that are Dreamweaver compatible. All have a
pretty good reputation among the DW development community.

I'm understandably a little partial to the first two listed :-)

I have no CF experience (or any database programming knowledge) can a novice
back-ender use it? What server side environment can or cant CF run on?
I'm looking for a turnkey product with at least the following criteria:
Product may use a custom DW site
A familiar / intuitive interface (DW related)
Payment gateway for visa and paypal (security encription)
"Search" products by catagories etc.
"Register"
"Add to Basket"
"View Cart"
"Checkout"
if your product qualifies and you would like to pitch me your product? Please
email me directly: pdefilippis@mywb17.com

Re: E-Commerce/E-Cart Solution
In my opinion Cartweaver needs no pitch. I own it and can vouch for the fact
that you need not know CF to use the extension and it supports many payment
gateways including PayPal. If you're comfortable with DW you'll find using
Cartweaver very easy. Plus the Docs are very well detailed.

ColdFusion can run on Windows or *NIX. More information is available here:> I have no CF experience (or any database programming knowledge) can a

Regardless of the solution you go with, make sure that any host that you're
using supports the proper language. Before you sign any contracts with a
host ask them specifically which version of the particular server software
they're using. If you decide to go CF, make sure that they're running either
CFMX 6.1 or CFMX 7. I wouldn't use a host that's still on CF5 or hasn't yet
updated from CFMX 6 to CFMX 6.1.
You can find a full feature list for Cartweaver, as well as demos on our> I'm looking for a turnkey product with at least the following criteria:

Re: E-Commerce/E-Cart Solution
Hostmysite.com or crystaltech.com are excellent choices for large providers.
For a smaller more personalized host you could look at centricweb.com. They
have been very reliable and understand the platform very well.

Take a look at both languages. I think you'll find you'll pick up CF much
faster. Besides the girls are prettier and prefer CF junkies. :-)

(which is a very developer focused company, though they are a big pricier).
What do you mean by heavier? If you know HTML, you'll pick up CF quickly.> btw - i was also told CF is alot heavier then php? Is their any thruth to

PHP is a far harder language to learn.

By "Heavier" I mean it's not as efficient as PHP... More code (heavy) = larger load times

Re: E-Commerce/E-Cart Solution
For all that already use Cartweaver... What is the procedure for having a Visa
& Paypal gateway (cost & programming wise)? I'm confused about MySQL... What is
it and what does it have to do with Catweaver?

Re: E-Commerce/E-Cart Solution
PayPal is a gateway to accept Visa and other credit cards on line. To set
this up in Cartweaver is literally a two step process, - choose your gateway
in the set up server behavior, and enter your PayPal account email in the
gateway file where indicated. That's it. MySQL is a database, Cartweaver
supports Access, MS SQL Server and MySQL which are the three most popular
databases on the web.
To clear up you general eCommerce questions I'd suggest you take a look at
the three part series I did for Macromedia Dev Net, it may be helpful.

If you have any more Cartweaver specific questions feel free to bring them
over to our support forum at

Hope this helps...

Re: E-Commerce/E-Cart Solution
I've not personally found this to be the case, but I don't have any
substantiating data to back it up... Too much honestly depends on the server
that's hosting your site, and not necessarily the language you're using.

Re: E-Commerce/E-Cart Solution
A customer needs to evaluate the requirements of the application to choose what kind of hosting to use. Such considerations include database server software, scripting software, and operating system. Most hosting providers provide Linux-based web hosting which offers a wide range of different software. A typical configuration for a Linux server is the LAMP platform: Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP/Perl/Python. The web hosting client may want to have other services, such as email for their business domain, databases or multi-media services for streaming media.
