Would Macromedia Director be the best tool for an ebook application which contains text and multimedia content as well as complex searching requirements ?
or would another macromedia product be a better choice such as Authorware ?

Flash may be better if you want scalable text displays, ala acrobat,
also flash playback is being built into a pda or two.
Director's embedded fonts can ocasionaly not render if a system folder
is locked down.
