    Default Editing a Font

I have a letter that I need to edit. I want to edit it in Illustrator and stretch some of the connecting lines and distort it. How would I do this?

    Thanks, Erin

Either envelope distort it, or more likely, convert the font to outline and individual edit the points.

    Phillip,
I have converted the font to outline, but I don't know how to select the individual points. I click on them, but they don't do anything.

    any ideas? Thanks!

    EF,

Do you know how to use the Direct Selection tool? The basics in the manual will give that to you as well as HELP. You are aware that this only will pertain to THIS instance of using the font and only the characters you actually change, not the whole text where that/those characters exist. You are NOT actually modifying the actual font characters in the font file. You can't do that in Illustrator.

    Bob,
Yes I know. I don't want to change the characters. I'm trying to recreate a logo from a client, and I need to stretch some of the strokes. I know the Direct Selection tool - forgot about it! I'll give it a try. Thanks! Erin

Just be sure to Convert the text to outlines, then Click with the Direct Selection tool. If you first have the text selected, then click OFF or all points will be selected so if you move one point all points will follow. Click off, then click on the Character you wish to modify with Direct Selection tool. Points that are selected will fill black. Unslected points will be white filled. You can multi-select points by marqueeing the ones you want, or SHIFT click individually the points you wish to move together. Good luck.

Good luck, Erin. That should work out fine for you. Good practice for using Bezier too. Easy once you get the hang of it.

I'm a novice with Photoshop and can't figure out how to convert text to white outline. All I can come up with with is black outline. Anyone know the way to do it? Thanks.

    Douglas,

Just change the colour in the Color palette from 100% to 0 black (or in RGB from 0,0,0 to 255,255,255).
