If the graphic is linked, on the Links palette flyout menu, select edit original.

If the graphics are not linked, follow these instructions. If you know the name of the graphic file originally placed in Pagemaker AND if you have the file accessible, you can simply replace the embedded graphic with a linked graphic by selecting the graphic with the pointer tool. Using "File/Place," make sure "replace selected item" is checked, browse to the original graphic file, select, and click "OK". You will have to do this for every graphic that is embedded.

If you do this in Pagemaker, you have to do it from Links Manager and click the options button to link the graphic and then check the info button to select the linked file if the file is available.

Both of these options are null and void if the original graphic files are not available. The best you will get is a low res screen shot. You can get that by copy/paste from ID or PM to Photoshop.

    Hi Paula,

If you're partial to the double-click method to edit originals, in InDesign you can get the same functionality by holding down the ALT key as you double-click on the graphic.
