    Default Editing a word doc

I'm administering a site using Contribute in CS3 and have docs set to open in
Microsoft Word for editing. If I browse to a doc, it opens in Word so I cannot
edit. If I go 'Choose', select a doc and then 'OK', it opens in Word and once I
have edited and try to save, I have to navigate back to the root folder it came
from. If I close Word without saving and go back to Contribute, the file
location is shown in the address bar and if I then choose 'Edit' it is launched
via the Contribute Editing Draft in Another Application window, but clicking
'back' won't let me browse back to the website. If I edit and then close the
word doc, then click 'launch' as if I wanted to continue editing, I am often
told that I don't have an application that can edit this type of file.

I'm sure that in earlier versions of Contribute, word docs were opened via
Contribute and saved back to the same location easy peasy. I'm not sure at the
moment whether to tell users that they have to upload a completely new file
    rather than edit one.

Any ideas at to what's happening and why would be much appreciated.

Default Re: Editing a word doc

    Hi,

When you navigate to the word document in your site, a file download dialog
appears which says open, save and cancel. You choose to open and the word
document opens in browse mode in conribute browser. You click Edit and now
editing in external application page is shown and the document opens in the
word document. Buttons in contribute are Publish, Save, Discard or send for
review,Even if you close the word doc. Now go the browser :... item in pages
panel it shows the last browsed page which is the word document. So it again
shows the file download dialog, since you have opened the word already, you can
cancel and start navigating to different folders in site.

Please let me know if this is what you are trying to do

    Thanks
