    Default Editing Acrobat 6.0 documents??

I am a translater, I translate documents from English to Spanish. Many of my clients send me documents to be translated in .pdf format. I find it very difficult to edit these documents in Adobe Acrobat, the translation increases the document size and I often need to add lines of text which is not easy to do and keep the line spacing margins, etc..

What is the best way to accomplish this? Often times the original Word/WordPerfect document is not available. I cannot find a way to from a pdf to a Word document. I can go to an rtf document but I lose all formatting.

    Please help!!

    Thank you

Editing PDF for translation is hopeless. I have heard from many who
have tried and none who have succeeded.

You should keep working at getting the editable document. If you are
sent a PDF, treat it as if you have been sent a printed book - ask for
    the original, or retype it.

You must copy text to word processor program to do a translations. First go to View menu in Acrobat 6 Pro, Page Layout - check Continuous, then press Ctrl+A (Edit/Select All), Ctrl+C (Edit/Copy). Now your text is in Clipboard and you can Paste it in any program you want.

    Michael,

I have had success in translating brochures, where text is not very long. But it has not been easy; as you note, I had to be careful not to have to add new lines of text. This requires playing with synonyms and with letter spacings, and can be a nightmare with long texts. I only did it because it was a very well paid job.

The general advice is very sound: PDFs are not meant for any major editing. The very limited editing capabilities of Acrobat seem to be there more as a courtesy than as a real help. Definitely, PDF is a (nearly) terminal format.

Thank you for your advice, I agree with everything. The document in question is a very long Employee Manual. It would be a nightmare doing this in Acrobat.

    Thanks again,
