Editing Distiller Settings Does Not Change pdf file size

I am using Acrobat Professional 6.0.0.5 with Windows 2000 NT. For the first time in attempting to make a pdf to email I changed the "Setting" to "Smallest File Size" - which I "assume" is what was formerly known as "Screen" - and distilled my file - it came out to be 11meg — I then went into the "Smallest File Size" settings and compressed EVERY setting to as small as it could be set with the same result.

What am I doing wrong - or is there another "button" in 6.0 that needs to be pushed?

That's a big file, but perhaps there's a lot in it. How was it made -
can you describe the file, too?

The file is a 33.8 mb eps from Illustrator CS that is placed into Quark 6.0 for position and printing to a postcript file from Quark 6.0 using the Meta Dimension ppd - mind you - NOT an exported pdf!

When I finally broke out my Distiller 5.0, used all the same files, ppd, etc. with the settings to "Print" it rendered a 2 mb file.
