I've selected the text layer, and when I click the T in toolbar and then try to highlight text I get a new text dialogue box instead of being able to highlight and select the existing text.

How do I select text in a layer to edit it?

Thanks, Klaas. I've discovered that the problem is that the text layers are changed when I open the .psd file, which was created in Photoshop Elements. Please see my more recent post.

Just double-click on the "T" icon in the text layer you want to target in the Layers Palette. This will highlight all of the text in your image window. Now, if you hit any of your arrow keys, the highlight (as in: selected text visual indicator) in your image window will be replaced with the blinking insert point bar. Just use your arrow keys to move the blinking cursor to where you need it.

Also, Richard, sometimes it helps to know where the "Hot Spot" is on the Text Cursor. This always had me a bit fuddled, and after a little investigation I discovered the info I needed. Read HERE <http://www.adobeforums.com/cgi-bin/webx?14@@.1dea53ea/10>

Thanks for the good information. No, Auto Select Layer is not checked in Move Options.

I've discovered that the problem is that when the project is opened in Photoshop 5.5 the Type layers are changed, flattened or something, because the "T" no longer appears in the Layers menu. The Type layers are fine when opened in Elements. How can I open the file in Photoshop and maintain the Type layers?

it's not a gif is it? indexed color mode images (gif's included) cannot save text layers. it's rasterized on save.
