    Default Editing text

Hi all! I designed some reports for a client... using a Mac. I created the PDFs from Quark files. My client is using a PC... I believe she has the Professional version of Adobe Acrobat. Anyway, she wants to edit some of the text... but is unable to do so. I tried from my end... and I am not able to edit text, either. We can strike through words, highlight them, etc... but we can't change words or delete a word here and there. Any ideas? I read in the Acrobat guide that you shouldn't embed fonts... so I tried it that way, and still didn't have any luck.

    Thanks.

Why? What happens when you attempt it? Have you selected the TouchUp Text Tool?

    Default Editing text

Hi all! I posted this yesterday, but I don't see it now. Sorry if I'm repeating myself. I created a pdf on a Mac from Quark 6. I exported as a .ps file, then converted to a pdf using Distiller. My client (on a PC) is unable to edit the text. She's using Acrobat Professional... shouldn't she be able to edit it? She just wants to make small text edits. Is there a special way I should save the pdf to enable her to do this? Thanks.

What do you mean by "unable to edit"? Does your client own all the
    fonts used in the document?

Probably not... I didn't know that was something that had to be in place. I was under the impression that slight modifications could be made to pdfs without the fonts... but now that I think about it, I guess that doesn't make sense.

What I mean by "unable to edit text" is that when she clicks on the text tool it lets her strike through words, but not delete letters or add words. Does that make sense?

Acrobat 6 doesn't allow any text changes unless the fonts are
installed. Sometimes even then, as it doesn't always recognise the
    fonts as available.

I have to say: if you are setting up a workflow where someone
downstream has to edit the PDF, think again!! PDF editing should be
kept as a desperate last resort when all else has failed, not a normal
everyday task. If people want to co-operatively work on a piece they
should all have the same design tools (and font, and preferably
    platform).

As an experiment; Just installed Acrobat 6.0 Standard on WinXP system. Created a MS Xcel.doc, made it pdf. and opened it in Acrobat.
Unable to edit; copy, paste, delete. Using all tools and yes, touch-up.
The text will not be altered other that cross through, comment or High lite.
Is this my inexperience or worse a waste of money? Any ideas??
    Thanks

What exactly happens when trying to use touch up?

If you were buying Acrobat because you wanted a PDF editor, it may be.
Since editing PDF should be the last thing you ever attempt with a
PDF, and only in desparate times (e.g. you have lost the original XLS
file due to a disk crash and simultaneously your backups were eaten by
    racoons).

same thing happens to me, and i'm also looking for answers till now...

if you use quark or excel, can you try to do a paper capture from the beginning of the file (Menu > Document > Paper Capture; pdf output is set to 'formatted text & graphics').

tried this and in some cases (don't know why or what are the similarities in the files i've chosen) the text editing/touchup text works.

    Default Editing text

    Hi

Strayed over from the InDesign forum, so please be gentle with me.

I typeset a large book with many colour illustrations about 5 years ago. The publisher wondered if I still had the files archived, I do not have the native files but have the pdfs that went to the printer. They want to make some textual corrections, is there any software out there in which this would be possible?

If I am totally in the wrong place I would be grateful for a pointer to the right spot. Thanks

You probably can (it depends on the specific PDF and the settings used to create it.

But, your text will not reflow as you add more and you wold still need to have the exact fonts used in the document installed on your system.

Indeed, PDFs can be very, very difficuly to change in respect of text ...
