Default Editing Text In An Existing Gif Image

Looking for help Fireworks 2, trying to update text on an existing gif image from the web (don't have the original source file). No matter what I do I can't get the text to be editable. What are the steps to get into text edit mode for a preexisting gif?

    Thanks!

Quite simply you can't. GIF is a graphics format... it's just a flat
    graphic with no other information.

Are you wanting to edit the text because there is so much? If so you might
find that you can use OCR software to extract the text form the gif.

I firgured I couldn't edit it because I saw a similiar post about jpegs. I ended up recreating all of them because I didn't have the original png file (the company contracted it out to a third party that is long gone).

    Thanks!
