When attempting to send a fax, I get following error message :

" ESP Ghostscript 7.07.1 Unrecoverable error, exit code 1.

    Not valid postscript file "

This happens with file extensions .txt or .odt

    ( Using Ubuntu 5.10 )

    Any advice gratefully rec'd.

    Thanks,-JS

You can only send Postscript and PDF files. Use some program's "Print to
file" option to convert your files to Postscript

Although I like the program this seems to be a deal breaker. I haven't
had any luck with formats other than postscript(extension .ps). Firefox
can save as .ps files using the print function but how do we get from OOo
    format to .ps?

The Open Office help says that you can generate a PostScript file by
installing a PostScript printer driver, such as the Apple Laserwriter
driver, and printing the document to that printer. One of the options in
the print menu is "print to file", which will create a .ps file if you
select a PostScript printer. There is also a2ps, the GNU
'anything-to-postscript' program that I found in Synaptic's package list.

This is what I would like to use but I don't see it anymore. Some
programs like Firefox have it but in OOo 2.0 I don't see print to file as
an option. What version of Open Office are you using?

I solved the " not ps file " error by installing imaginary Apple laser
writer printer as advised - (thanks)- and then printing to file + faxing
the ps file --- however gtk - efax doesn't detect/ see my ESS 2838/2839

    modem.
