    Default Element Selection Going Nuts

I just recently finished a 68 page catalog using ID CS V3.01. Job turned out great. Now the client wants to modify a few sections and create a new brochure based on those catalog pages. Here's where the fun began. I opend the original catalog document and tried to select a text box only to find the text selection box repositioned itself about 45 degrees to the right and down. The actual screen image of the text is still where it's supposed to be, but to select the type you have to select in a different area. The text bounding box shows up where it's supposed to, but when you select it, the selection box (the one with the adjustment squares on it) shows up to the right and down. I recently had some issues with SUITCASE and am still in the process of sorting all that out. Is this a "preferences" problem or is there something more sinister going on here. I'm not an IT person, just a designer that needs some help.

    Thanks in advance.

It is a known issue w/ the suitcase auto-activation plug-in.
    Disable, or remove it.

EDIT: You can also force a re-draw of the screen to remedy the situation for a moment.
Use Command+R to toggle rulers off/on. This will force the screen to re-draw.

Chris, that did it. I toggled the rulers to bring everything back. I'll now disable autoactivation.
Thanks so much for the quick response!!! :-)

Ken, are you using InEffects with InDesign? I use the last version of InEffects with IDCS2 and when I apply the effect the text boxes do exactly the same thing that you are experiencing. I know the Suitcase thing is true but I don't use Suitcase so InEffects may be another culprit.

Wayne, no... not using InEffects. I'm on OS 10.3.9 using a G4 Silver. I did resolve it by deactiviating the auto-activation plug-in, but thanks for the info, good for the future problems I'll probably have.
