Embed Fonts
When I create a PDF out of File Maker Pro by either printing or saving as a PDF, the fonts do not display correctly on other computers. Are they not embedding properly? How can I make sure the fonts will work on any computer?
Thanks!

Re: Embed Fonts
If you are printing and then choosing "Save as PDF" using the Apple technology, then ALL fonts are embedded - there is no option for anything else.
If you are printing to the Adobe PDF printer, then it depends on what settings you've chosen.
if you are doing something else - please say what.

Re: Embed Fonts
If I choose Print, then "Save as PDF", it saves a PDF that is a blank page 0.04 x 0.04 inches. Pretty strange. Why does it do that and what are the settings that you were talking about to make the fonts show up on any computer?
Thanks!

Re: Embed Fonts
Dear sebpeter,
First you wrote:

later your write

page 0.04 x 0.04 inches<
What did you mean in your first post "saving as a PDF"?
When you use Acrobat Professional, you can use the buld in Prefligth tool to check for fonts that are not embedded.

Re: Embed Fonts
I meant Print>PDF Printer or Save As>PDF from the File menu
The Preflight report is quite extensive to read and understand correctly. How do we fix fonts that are not embedded through Preflight?
Thanks!!!!

Re: Embed Fonts
Hi sebpeters
The best way is: generate a PDF with fonts embedded. Embedding fonts afterwards is often not reliable.
I don't have access to Filemaker. Usually if you can print to a printer, you also should be able to saves as PDF via the printer driver.
When you open the printer dialog and press the "Preview" button, do you see the page as it should be?
Do you have Acrobat Professional installed on the system? If yes, you can use the "Adobe PDF" printer that generates a PDF with embedded font if the correct distiller settings are used.

"I don't have access to Filemaker. Usually if you can print to a printer, you also should be able to saves as PDF via the printer driver."
— This produces a PDF of an empty square.
I have Acrobat Pro 6
Print Preview also displays just an empty white square.
Printing via PDF Printer works but the fonts don't work on all computers. Any ideas?
Thanks!!!!

Re: Embed Fonts
Could it be that some users are attempting to view the PDF on Reader 4 instead of 5 and above?

Re: Embed Fonts
Have you changed the default settings from STANDARD to PRESS/HIGH
QUALITY/PDFX?
This can be achieved via the PRINT menu and then COPIES AND PAGES / PDF
OPTIONS /
