embedded quicktime movies broken with Acro7.0, QT 7. Pro, and 10.4 Tiger
I had a major demonstration this morning with Boeing and lo and behold embedded quicktime movies in pdf's fail to play in Acrobat 7.
Acrobat wants an 'external media player' which hotlink to Quicktime... I already have quicktime 7 pro. This is not a problem with acrobat 6.0 nor was it a problem with 7 under Panther.
anyone else out there? an update would be nice...

Re: embedded quicktime movies broken withAcro 7.0, QT 7. Pro, and 10.4 Tiger
If you were using a machine with Panther and QT 6.5.2 you would hve no problem apparently either something was changed in Tiger/QT7 or acrobat simply doesn't recognize QT 7. Although they should have been anticipating the change since Apple has been advertising the change to Tiger for a year now.
I'm sure Apple and Adobe will get together in a few days and have everything running smooth as silk. :-)

Re: embedded quicktime movies broken withAcro 7.0, QT 7. Pro, and 10.4 Tiger
The conflict appears to be between Acrobat 7 and QuickTime 7. Tiger is only involved in the sense that it installs QuickTime 7.
I created a PDF from InDesign CS2 with an embedded QuickTime movie. In Panther, I had installed QuickTime 7. Acrobat 7 gave the message you described, but Acrobat 6 did not.
So the workaround is to display the demo in Acrobat 6.

Oh! Oh! Looks like Adobe needs to roll up their sleeves and get to work.
I'm sure they will fix the problem in a day or two.

Its my understanding that if you have Acrobat Pro 6 it has no trouble at all.

Re: embedded quicktime movies broken withAcro 7.0, QT 7. Pro, and 10.4 Tiger
I haven't yet experienced problems with an embedded quicktime but there is an issue. I'm running tiger and now I can't print to adobe pdf in the printing panel. There is an "!" mark by the driver in the printing panel. Thankfully the apple pdf still works. I did trash my preferences but it didn't help. if anyone has suggestions...
I would suggest typing to www.apple.com/macosx/feedback. This form is feedback to apple. There should be an update coming out sometime mid-month for tiger.

Re: embedded quicktime movies broken withAcro 7.0, QT 7. Pro, and 10.4 Tiger
The problem seems to be in Acrobat 7.
I have Tiger with QT 7. The movie couldn't play with Acrobat 7 at all. But if I open it with Acrobat 6, everything is fine.
Adobe should fix Acrobat 7. QT 7 is not the problem.

Re: embedded quicktime movies broken withAcro 7.0, QT 7. Pro, and 10.4 Tiger
I'm sure Adobe will fix all the bugs in a few days ;-)
I've run across another "bug" in Acrobat 7.0.1; in which Logos in formats such as jpeg, gif are mangled when printed in Acrobat or reader only. We had this same problem in Acrobat 3 or 4 best I can remember.
All the print is fine. Except underlines manually placed under links are deleted; and the images appear as horizontal Lines like the horizontal control on and old tv is mis-adjusted.
I've described it. been told to deal with it. and to use the workaround to print as "Graphic". In advanced features of the print menu.

Panther 10.3.9
Acrobat 7.0.1
Quicktime 7 Pro
Same for me as described above. Embedded and/or linked .mov will not play. "The media requires an additional player. Please click "get media player" to download ... "
Which will work - downgrade to QT 6.5.2 or to Acrobat 6?

The workaround until Adobe fixes it is to back up to QuickTime 6.5 or Acrobat 6.

As it turns out Quicktime 7.01 WAS released today not on April 29th, but unfortunately it still doesn't like Acrobat (embedded media files). Oh well.
