Emoticon-B-Gone
I've discovered that, on the Adobeforums web site, there is a way to turn OFF the emoticon bar at the bottom of the page.
Under the Preferences menu, go to Miscellaneous Settings, and un-check Show Emoticons (its a check box near the bottom of the page)
This appears to have no effect on emoticons within a message, but does seem to speed page loading without all of those .GIFs.
FWIW...

Re: Emoticon-B-Gone
Barbara,
I thought that I may have seen some converted to the :whatever: format, but I still see many of the graphic ones... speaking strictly about messages.
The bar across the bottom of my screen, which acts as the emoticon menu, is completely gone, for me, though. No hint that it was ever there.

Emoticon-not-B-gone for me. I reset the Preferences, logged out, and logged back in again. They're stubborn little devils, aren't they?

Re: Emoticon-B-Gone
Beth,
Your experience differs significantly from mine!
I can see the result of toggling emoticons on/off without logging out/in.
Again, it's not the in-message emoticons, just the display of the emoticon
selection list at the bottom of the page that I'm able to suppress.

Re: Emoticon-B-Gone
They're already text intrusions to begin with if accessing forum with
text based newsreader.

Re: Emoticon-B-Gone
Unfortunately, Beth, I have found that it doesn't work all the time--mostly they're just obnoxious text intrusions, but occasionally they still pop up as dayglo graphics detritus. Oh well, at least the whole bar of them below the post window is gone.
