Enabling IEEE 802.1x authentication on a wireless network causes failures
I set up a wireless network on XP using a cable modem and
a dell router. Everything worked fine with the factory
defaults (no security). I then attempted to add some
security to my wireless network. I changed the SSID on
the network and router, enabled WEP encryption on both
with the correct key, and enabled the Internet Connection
Firewall.
'Enable IEEE 802.1x authentication for this network' was
checked on by default. It seems that when it is on, I
can connect to the internet fine but usually after just a
few minutes the connection is dropped. XP then gives me
the balloon telling me it finds a wireless network and I
can re-connect to the network. It seems to lose the
connection again and again. If I check 'IEEE...'
authentication off on my network, I can connect fine and
I do not lose my connection.
Any ideas on why this occurs? Can I fix it?
