    Steve,

I received your files and it is a known issue.

Since you mentioned you receive the same output in print as you do on screen, I assume you are printing to a non-postscript device?

Turning on overprint preview WILL correct the display issue. (or turning on high resolution preview for the image)

What will NOT work is rasterizing the preview from postscript for the low res preview. (high and overprint will still work)

To print to non-postscript device, turn on overprint preview before printing.

    Saving the file workarounds.

As you know, you can use tif-transparent preview.

But, if you want to save with the pict preview, Uncheck Include document thumbnails when saving the eps.

Since you said you tried the high resolution preview, try direct selecting the image and apply the setting. Or turn on overprint preview and report back those findings.

As to what was mentioned about transparency in a eps file and saving to postscript 3, that is not the case.

EPS images are FLAT. Any transparent pixel is seen as WHITE in dtp applications such as InDesign and Xpress. (Yes, regardless if you saved with transparent tif preview) Your sample file did not contain transparency, so this does not apply to your issue.

No, it's a postscript device. It's an EFI Fiery Z4 RIP connected to a Minolta color copier.

Turning on overprint preview WILL correct the display issue. (or turning
on high resolution preview for the image) To print to non-postscript device,
turn on overprint preview before printing.

Actually, turning on "overprint preview" seems to correct both the display and printing problem, on the aforementioned printer.

We'll probably use native AI files for now, since it solves the problem, it's the easiest workaround to manage, and the files are smaller as well.

I'd still like to hear from Adobe is this issue is being worked on, though.

Then your ppd or driver for the printer also has a problem because it is acting like a non-postscript device.

When you print with overprint preview turned off, does it print the element at the proper resolution or does it print the low res preview?

Anyway, the problem lies with the include document thumbnails checkbox and Adobe does not make a habit of informing the public of what they will do before they do it. All we can do is submit a bug report.
