    Default Re: EPS-Export

I notice this whenever I'm generating pdfs straight out of FH. The file will
default to whatever page size I am using in the original FH file, no matter how
large the objects within the file are. As a workaround, I copy whatever objects
I want for the new eps into a new document, then make a custom page size so as
to closely enclose the objects. Then export out. It's a bit of a pain in that
it involves an extra step or two but it's pretty foolproof. This is one aspect
of FH's .pdf export that's wonky

I have not seen this kind of thing with .eps files, though. In fact, I
just did a test with a FH file, exporting it to a Photoshop .eps... the
resultant file was small and was not letter-sized, even though the original FH
file was on a letter-sized page. Make certain that you don't have any stray
points hiding in your FreeHand file that would make the eps. file larger

    Default Re: EPS-Export

    BY DEFINITION:

    1. PDF files are "documents". They _must_ contain page size and orientation
information in order to be properly formatted PDF files. They can contain
one or more pages. FH always uses the current document's page specifications
    for generating this PDF data.

    2. EPS files are "images". They _can't_ contain any page information; size,
orientation, number, ... . FH uses either the total aggregate size of all
objects in the current document or the total size of the objects in the
current selection to determine the "size" data for the EPS.

They attributes are _not_ at the discretion of the generating application.
They are "the law" as defined in the various format specifications. Any
application that violates "the law" must "spend a night in the box" (read:
"creates files no other app can read or use"). In effect, _you_ instructed
FH to use the FH document's page size by the act of choosing "PDF" as the
export format. Conversely, you are instructing FH to ignore the page size
    when you choose "EPS".
