EPS problems - Macromedia Freehand

Hi , I am having problems reading an EPS file in freehand(PC) when sent from a MAC. The file just comes up as a block with a cross through. Freehand doesn't give any errors and imports the files but they never show and don't print. The files open fine in photoshop and I have resorted to converting them to TIFF and re-importing. What is the problem and how do I get around this?? Thank you Christian...

Hi , I am having problems reading an EPS file in freehand(PC) when sent from a

FreeHand does not have a Postscript interpreter, so many kinds of EPS
(Encapsulated Postscript) cannot be read. If you open the file in
Illustrator and save as an Illustrator 7 or 8 file, you can open that in FH.

Regardless of the condition of its preview, though, a placed EPS graphic
should still print correctly on any PostScript printer, and appear in a
    distilled PDF.

If the EPS was saved on a Mac with a PICT preview, then the Windows machine
    won't display the preview.

As Odysseus pointed out, the contents of the EPS will print fine to a
Postscript printer or interpreter such as Acrobat Distiller. I assume since
yours don't print, your printer is non-Postscript.

It's possible to save an EPS on a Mac that has a preview that's viewable on
a PC. Are you in communications with the file's originator? What software is
he/she using to create the EPS?

Even if you printed an EPS with PC preview to a non-Postscript printer,
you'd only be printing the preview, not the contents. What is the final
destination of the file? EPS may not be the file format of choice for you to
    use.
