error connecting to samba server from win2k - Linux / Unix Administration

I am using samba version 2.2.8a on a FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE (GENERIC) for x86. I tried following from a Windows 2000 Server edition: 1) net view \servername System error 5 has occurred. Access is denied. 2)net use * \servername\tmp <password> /USER:root System error 1240 has occurred. The account is not authorized to log in from this station. I can view and connect to the shares locally using 127.0.0.1 or using the servername. I can list netbios name table from Windows 2000 using nbtstat -a <servername>. how to resolve this? Thanks....

Default error connecting to samba server from win2k

I am using samba version 2.2.8a on a FreeBSD 5.1-RELEASE (GENERIC)
for x86. I tried following from a Windows 2000 Server edition:

    1) net view \\servername
    System error 5 has occurred.
    Access is denied.

    2)net use * \\servername\tmp <password> /USER:root
    System error 1240 has occurred.
The account is not authorized to log in from this station.

I can view and connect to the shares locally using 127.0.0.1 or using
the servername. I can list netbios name table from Windows 2000 using
    nbtstat -a <servername>.

    how to resolve this?

Just a quick response, since nobody appears to be offering any help...
I have been studying how to get my Windows XP box onto a local samba
server here, and ran across a never truly referred to bit of external
doentation... did you create a machine account for the Win2k box?

There are more details in this very well put together doent:

    Good luck.

Thank you. I think that is the problem, for some reason I am getting
error when trying to create Unix user for the machine account + $
suffix to the machine name. I can create the account without the $
suffix. Therefore I can't add the machine account with smbpasswd
    utility.

No specific error message by the unix.

Is there any work around to this in smb?
