Default Error: file is locked - but ISNT!

I get files from the mac people & save them to my computer & work on them in PS 7 (XP pro). A few months ago I started getting an error from time to time when opening a file I had saved onto my computer from the macs - the 'cannot open file because file is locked, goto properties to unlock'. BUT - the file is NOT LOCKED. And now I have an image I have worked on but cant do anything with because I cant open it or anything.

    Any ideas out there?

    thanks

Melissa: Have you tried copying the file to another directory and then opening.

This rarely happens to me, but is always solved by rebooting the computer. Sometimes the transferred file gets locked up by the transfer process.

    Hello,

Dave - Once I have saved the image onto my computer I can no longer open it or even copy it to another directory. I get "access is denied, make sure disc is not full" etc., error. It must have something specifically to do with MY computer it seems as if I save the same file that is erroring on my computer to a different file on the network, it is fine.

:) Any other suggestions? To be clear - once I have a bad file on my computer, I cant do ANYTHING with it as anything I try to do gives me the error message.

Anyone know if going to DOS and changing the attrib settings on the file works?

It's a pain Melissa, wait a while to find out if anyone has tried it first.

Here's what I do whenever I get the error message.

I make a duplicate of the image and close everything else in Photoshop, then I can save the image.

    Melissa,

disc is not full" etc., error

If you have photoshop closed and are getting that error message, that is you are just trying to move it to another directory and photoshop is not open, reboot your machine. That should release the file.

    Eric,

You can change the attributes in DOS or in Windows, but I don't think this is an attributes issue.

    Peace,
