Error: "...File is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"?
Hello, fellow arteests. This one REALLY peeved me.
A Photoshop file I created YESTERDAY (and have been working on for several days) cannot open TODAY because:
ERROR:
Could not open "filename.psd" because the file is not compatible with this version of Photoshop.
I was just working on the file YESTERDAY fercryinoutloud!
I've made no changes to my system. Just another day working in Pshop and VOOM! A week's worth of work is suddenly "incompatible"??
Has anyone heard of this? Any workarounds? Could the file's versioning change or be corrupted by saving it normally? GRRRR!!
BTW, the file won't open on my PC (v. 7.0), either.
Pshop 7.0 Mac / 7.0 PC
MAC G4 / 1.25 Ghz
OS 10.2.8
Memory 768 MB
Thanks!

Re: Error: "...File is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"?
Are you opening files from or saving them to removable media or over a network? Don't.

Re: Error: "...File is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"?
Make sure you've run the 7.0.1 update.
If the file is in RGB mode, you may have some luck opening in ImageReady.

Re: Error: "...File is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"?
You know, you guys absolutely amaze me! Thank you SO much!
I am, in fact, working over a network (which you sleuthed!). The links you provided, Ramon, were dead on and helped me understand the problem. Didn't help me recreate a week's worth of work, mind you, but it will help me in the future. ;^)
Jason: I'll take your advice and run the update. Also, the file DID open in ImageReady as you suggested (I never would have thought of that!), but alas, every layer was corrupted. Damn!
I SOOO appreciate the help, guys. Thanks very much!
Cordially,
Daniel

Re: Error: "...File is not compatible with this version of Photoshop"?
Try opening your Photoshop file in Illustrator (choosing "Convert Photoshop Layers to Objects…").
This works with CS but I don't remember if this worked with earlier versions.
