Error: Indesign CS 2 + Win XP SP2 = crashes when I try to save - Adobe Indesign Windows

Ok, I've found a solution on one of the three computers I run InDesignCS2 on (I haven't tried on the others yet). On this one computer I did this: 1. Installed IDCS2 normally. It always crashed (as described earlier). 2. Installed TweakUI for WinXP and turned off "Allow Recent Doents on Start Menu". IDCS2 still crashed. 3. Turned on "Allow Recent Doents on Start Menu" in TweakUI. IDCS2 is now working fine. I can not explain this behaviour, to me it seems completely random. Ok, I've found a solution on one of the three computers I run InDesignCS2 on (I haven't tried on the others yet).

On this one computer I did this:

If it works to install TweakUI on the other machines and turn off and on recent doents, I'm happy, but it seems really weird that I get the same problem on 3 computers with totally different setup (except WinXP SP2), and that this is the solution.

    Bjarne,

So it seems after all it is the same as the TweakUi issue.

You don't have to install TweakUI to correct this. Just open the registry editor and go to

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer

Make sure the value of NoRecentDocsMenu is set to 0.

This value can be set to 1 by TweakUI, but also by changing a Group Policy or by hand.

Ah, then it makes more sense. It is absolutely possible that all these 3 computers have this setting in the register, as I haven't configured them all myself.

Thanks so much for all help.

Teus: Do you think Adobe is aware of this error? I'm probably not the only one who doesn't want to store all my recent doents?

    Bjarte,

The problem is reported to Adobe. There is a very long thread about this, which I would avoid reading if I were you (the insults are flying all over the place). But not only I, but also at least one other person noticed Adobe about this issue.
