error message on startup
when i boot my computer (and also when installing microsoft updates) i get the
following error message: "windows cannot find
'c:\windows\system32\adobe\shockwave 11\symcheckupstub.exe'. make sure you
typed the name correctly, and then try again. to search for a file, click the
start button, and then click search."
clicking ok gets rid of the message, but i'm wondering how i stop this from
occuring.

Re: error message on startup
It's probably either a shortcut in your "C:\Documents and
Settings\<username>\Start Menu\Programs\Startup" folder, or a setting
under "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Run"
or "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Cur rentVersion\Run" in
your registry. You're pretty safe deleting a key there if you find one
in either branch

It's not a folder, but registry keys. Start -> Run, type "regedit" (no> folder you're talking about...
quotes) and hit <ENTER>

I don't know what it would look like. Try searching your registry for> or shockwave. what would the entry look like?
the path that appears in the error dialog.
If you didn't see anything in msconfig that looked like a candidate then
I have no idea where the error is coming from.
