Default error - object uses relative colorimetric rendering intent

Could someone help, I work at a company and often receive pdf files (originally created in illustrator) which when I check to preflight using a beta version of enfocus (vio vcsp) i get an error:

object uses relative colorimetric rendering intent

I need to get the client to correct this error as i havent got pitstop to edit these files. Does anyone know what the error means and how to correct it in illustrator.

    Thanks......

This isn't an error; it's a perfectly normal part of PDF.
The real problem is that the pre-flighting is set up to check for
this. You should fix the pre-flight rules, not the file.

yeah, problem is the preflight rules have not been setup by us..its a preflight system by the newspaper (online). So i have to go back and resolve this problem, but not sure what the problem really is or how to fix it.

Default Re: error - object uses relative colorimetric rendering intent

Well, the rendering intent is a description of how colours are to be
converted, especially out of gamut colors. The thing is, relative is
the default so almost every PDF ever made will get this error. I don't
see any way to set it in Illustrator either.

So it would be worth asking them
    (a) how to change it (they may well say "Pitstop")
    (b) why they have the restriction

In the color settings in Ai you can choose Perceptual, Saturation, Relative or Absolute for the intent.

    Maybe a later option. I have AI9.

Since it was available in v.8, I'll assume it's also available in v.9. If you choose Edit>Color Settings (or File>Color Settings) it should be one of the available options.

Ah, a per document setting. I was looking for a per-element setting
(on the Colors palette for example).
