Default Error on projectorstart at iml32.dll

Hi,

the problem is (dir 8.5.1.):

I test my cd-roms on various computers. They run exactly on the systems Win98, WinXP, MacOS.
But when I use them on a Win2000-computer the following error occurs before the projector starts:

ordernumber 1333 isn't found in DLL iml32.dll.

This message comes two times. When I click OK in the message window the projector continued and runs normally.

I have placed the iml32.dll (also mscvrt, dirapi, proj) in the projectorfolder and think it is all right because there is no problem at the other systems (and I do so since D7).
Meanwhile I think that this error occurs because at the Win2000-computers the system folder is named 'WINNT' and not 'Windows', so that the macromediaplayer can not detect the right systemfolder and the respective temp-folder.

Can it be so and what can I do against the error-message?

If you created the projector with Shockwave Player and/or Shockwave
compression, then did you also include the SWADcmp Xtra (and possibly other
SWA Xtras)?

FWIW, I had to put those .dll files with the projector in D7, too, but in
D8.5.1 they work fine from the Xtras folder.

Nah. Director doesn't care what the name of the folder is. It gets it from
the system environment and it could be any name the user chose upon
installing Windows.

You might want to make sure the projector does not have any Xtras marked to
"Include in Projector" and include all your required Xtras in an external
Xtras folder.

Hallo Mark,

thank you for answering so fast.

Hmm, I thought so also, that it would be very improbable that thing with the systemfolders name...
But I thought so, because some time ago I had the same error message at XP. But there it happened because this computer hadn't the administrator rights. As I gave them to it, all functioned normally, no error message.

At the 2000-comp I tried the same, gave it the admin-rights but the error was always there...

Yes, my projectors need some xtras but I have unmarked them for including in the projector. It is the same with the SWA-xtras which I need in my projectors. They are all in the external xtra-folder.

Now I will try your tip and put the DLLs in the Xtra-Folder (I didn't hear about this method so far!).
I'll see what happened then and I will inform you here.

Please do. It seems you already had my other suggestions covered.

Hi Mark,

I tried your tip, but it is always the same.
I had put all the DLLs in my Xtrafolder, on the XP-computer all functioned fine (this one has the admin-rights). But on this Win2000-comp, which has also the admin-rights, the error occurs constantly.

The CD goes into the drive,
then autostart takes place,
then the error-messagewindow comes to the desktop (order number 1333...),
I click OK,
CD continues,
now the screen goes black because the projector runs in fullscreen,
when it is black then the error-message occurs the second time,
I click OK,
now the first graphic of the projector comes on screen and the CD continues without any other problem.

Because I see only this difference between the XP- and 2000-comp is the name of the windowssystemfolder, I thought of how described above.

I produced the CDs in the year 2000 with D7 and had to actualize them because they don't run under Win2000 and XP; have organized, that all the Xtras I use are in the newest version now.

But since your tip hasn't success I really don't know now what the reason for this error is....

It's time to do some elimination. D8.5.1 projectors definitely work in
Win2000.

See if your CD works on other Win2K machines. This may tell you whether
there is something odd about that one machine.

See if a simple test projector works. This may tell you that something in
your project is the cause. The fact that the error occurs twice and in an
apparently consistent manner should help. It makes me think that you may be
able to narrow down the possibilities.

Are any of your cast members created from 3rd party asset Xtras? If so, you
might try deleting those members and running the projector again.

You might consider using the traceLog and/or the message window in the
projector to help debug. To do enable the message window for a projector,
just add a line to a startMovie event:

on startMovie
the debugPlaybackEnabled = 1
end

This is just a long shot since D7 had the same problem, but is there a
chance that you have anti-aliased #text members and the Win2K is an other-
than-English OS? If so, try turning off anti-aliasing for those #text
members.

Hi Mark,

at first: thank you for the discussion and your time spent on this problem!

I have tested this CD really often in the past weeks with the messagewindow and debugplaybackenabled=1 but I saw not a sign of solution.
I also tested on three different computers with win2000. Always the same sight...
So I think, like you, that in my project is a hidden error which one can find hardly.

Today I tested again with messagewindow added and with traceload=1. In the projectormovie was a textmember with aliasing and I have changed it into a bitmap, because my w2k are all German ones.

Because the text in the messagewindow is quite long I will attach a simple textfile to this thread. It shows the order of events at the projectorstart in the messagewindow, I have written some comments to this events always in parenthesis [ ] or marked with *.

Please don't wonder of some old notification in Lingo, this project comes from Dir5 originally and has been actualized with Dir7.0.2 and it has to go on because it sells good. ;-)

Try 'the trace = 1' instead of 'the traceLoad = 1'. Note that this will
fill up quickly, so you may want to exit as soon as possible after that
second alert.
> In
> the projectormovie was a textmember with aliasing and I have changed

As long as there are no others, that should help.
> Because the text in the messagewindow is quite long I will attach a

Since this was only logging the traceLoad, it may not be a good
indicator.
> Please don't wonder of some old notification in Lingo, this project

Now I'm thoroughly confused. Created in Dir5, "actualized" in D7.0.2,
dmFadeReg serial number for D8.5, other mentions in this thread for
D8.5.1. What does "actualized" mean in Director's terms, Create a
Projector?

I'm still thinking you may have a version problem with the Xtras or .dll
files. I would open, recompile all scripts, save and compact every
Director file in the project with the latest version of Director you
have. Delete all the Xtras and .DLLs you have in the project's Xtras
folder and copy them anew from your latest version of Director (keeping
or updating 3rd party Xtras as required). Delete any .DLL files that are
next to the projector.

If there is even the slightest chance that you may have copied Macromedia
Xtras between various Director application Xtras folders, then you might
want to uninstall and reinstall the latest version.

Since this started in Dir5, is there any Lingo that is using the old
XObject model? openXLib or similar?

Have you tried a simple test projector yet?

Have you tried creating a projector using the Standard Player option and
NOT Compressed (Shockwave) option?

Have you tried elminating certain assets in your main project (I might
start with those transition members/sprites)?

Default Re: Error on projectorstart at iml32.dll; solved

Hi Mark,

oh, I think there is a misunderstanding because I used the wrong word 'actualize'.
So it came to a confusion ;-) sorry!
I also found that it had to mean 'ordinal number' instead of 'order number'... Should have to use the translator more often ;-)

Stick to the point:

- When I wrote about 'actualizing' I meant to make topics. I described the history of my projects, the way from D5..to.. D8.5.1. You can be sure, that I always updated completely, what stands for that all Xtras and DLLs where replaced with the newest version which come with Director.

- Today I have to update my CD-ROM-projects to D8.5.1 because I will sell the CDs under Win2000 and XP too.

- The trace hadn't said me something because the error occured before some script of my project was activated.

!!! But now I have solved that thing...

There were two things which have triggered the error:
-One was a little bit hidden an OpenXlib order, how you suspected, thanks for the tip. As I deleted it the second appearance of the error was disappeared.

-The cause of the first appearance was a bit hard to found. But now I have it:
In my xtras-folder are the xtras netfile and netlingo too. Originally this xtras are delivered with D8.5.1 and have the versions netfile(8.5.1r102), netlingo(8.5.1r102); in my Director they had the dates 9th January 2002. Because I looked for older 3rd party xtras I didn't think of a xtra from director. At least I looked to this xtras too. And there it was: I had this xtras in other versions on the CD namely netfile(8.5.1r106) and netlingo(8.5.1r105). I had downloaded this version in December 2002 from Macromedia, but I don't know today why... Now I have changed back the xtras on my CD to the originally versions and the projector starts fine!

Merry Christmas to you!

That netLingo stuff sounds familiar...Ah yes. Possibly due to this article
by Robert Tweed:

"NetLingo Bug"
http://www.killingmoon.com/director/bugs/netlingo

I'm not sure what the current status of that bug is, but he does have an
Important note half way down the page about where not to copy those
versions of the Xtras.
