Default Error Printing to HP 8100 Offending Command:clip

I have been dealing with this problem for two years now and have never found a solution in the forums. When I try to print a pdf file the printer gets to an image and stops printing. The following message is printed:

    ERROR:limitcheck

    Offending Command:clip

    Stack:

    -save level-

This happens on various machines (i.e. Windows 2000 and XP).

This always involves printing to the HP 8100 printer (Printer Memory is 10MB). I can print fine to other printers, but since this pdf is going with a product release I do not wish to send a faulty document to a client who may also have an HP 8100.

The pdf files are created in FrameMaker 5.5 and in FrameMaker 7.

This is not just one .pdf it has happened to numerous over the years.

My only solution so far is to replace the image following the last one printed successfully.

Images have been captured in a number of ways, from Alt+Prt Scr to being created in PhotoShop and Fireworks.

Some were embedded and others were not.

Thus far my only solution has been to replace the image with a newly captured one.

Here in lies the next problem. When I replace the image and recreate the pdf the replaced image prints fine but now other images that previously printed fine give the same error. Since the only change to these newly broken images is that I recreated a pdf, I have surmised that this must be an Acrobat problem. I have recently upgraded from Acrobat 5 to 5.05 and it still happens.

I have continued to replace images until everything works fine but this takes time and patience, both of which I am short on. Does anyone know what this issue is and if there is a better fix. I have seen this issue appear on the forum more times than I can count and there never seems to be a solution.

Default Re: Error Printing to HP 8100 Offending Command:clip

It is likely, but not certain, that the printer is running out of
memory. To test this, try setting the printer to a lower resolution.
If you are printing both sides, try printing just one.
