Default Error when using Save As with opened file

Running Photoshop 7.0.1 on Windows2000, cannot use "Save As" to save an opened file. Error: Could not save as "filename" because that document is currently open. Save using a different name, or close the document and try again. Changing the filename and location makes no difference. The file is not open in any other appication except Photoshop. The opened filetype can be a PSD, JPEG, or TIFF - all get the same error. Very frustrating. Does anyone have a work-around?
