Evolution does not unloads after being closed. Do you know why? - Linux Setup, Configuration & Administration

Hi ! I have a fresh Redhat9 Linux installation, I use IceWM as window manager and Evolution as email client. I noticed that evolution does not free memory after being closed; there still remains an active process called evolution-alarm which uses something like 1.7MB of memory. The only way to stop this process is killing it or exiting XFree86. Do you know why this happens? [userlocalhost user]$ top .... 2187 user 15 0 1724 1436 284 S0,0 1,1 0:02 0 evolution-alarm .... [userlocalhost user]$ ps -A -l .... 0 S 500 2187 1 0 75 0 - 5416 schedu ? ...

Default Evolution does not unloads after being closed. Do you know why?

    Hi !
I have a fresh Redhat9 Linux installation, I use IceWM as window
manager and Evolution as email client.
    I noticed that evolution does not free memory after being closed;
there still remains an active process called evolution-alarm which
uses something like 1.7MB of memory.
The only way to stop this process is killing it or exiting XFree86.
Do you know why this happens?

    [userlocalhost user]$ top
    ....
    2187 user 15 0 1724 1436 284 S0,0 1,1 0:02 0
    evolution-alarm
    ....
    [userlocalhost user]$ ps -A -l
    ....
    0 S 500 2187 1 0 75 0 - 5416 schedu ? 00:00:02
    evolution-alarm
    ....

    Any idea?

Well, I have two processes: evolution-wombat and evolution-alarm-notify.
It's just the way Evolution works. It wants to alarm you when your
appoitments are due. If you don't want to use most or all of Evolution's
functionality, I suggest you use another mail client like Balsa or mutt,
since they are both excellent mail clients with no extra goodies.

I see wombat (what is it?) and bonobo process' too.

Nonetheless I would like to use Evolution for email and contacts. I am
used to work with PIMs which do consider and alarm the user for
appointments only while the program is running. I find this is a good
way of working because it does not interfere while doing other jobs.

Is there any way of setting Evolution in order not to run the alarm
section after being stopped? Even Bonobo is useless in this case, I
know it's a part of Gnome but when Evolution is closed it becomes
unseless. It could be nice to free up memory in this case :-)

No idea what wombat is :)

Heh, I'd like to do "other jobs" as well, without Evolution reminding me
about all these stupid appointments :)

I use all of GNOME and haven't tried to figure out what could be turned
off. As for Evolution, it seems to work pretty much like they made it at
the Factory -- that is, it's not very configurable I'm afraid.

If you do find out, please tell us what you did, because there might be
others who would be happy to have this info.
