Default existing site, going to add contribute3

We want to add contribute3 to our toolbox. At the moment there are 2 people
with studiomx2004 and we have bought 5 copies of contribute3.
What is the procedure for initiating this other than ticking the "use
contribute" box? and once I do that what will change for the current users
    of studio?

set up the Admin panel, and set up the users in whatever 'groups' you need,
depending on what rights to edit their duties involve.

The dw people will notice a little slowness in uploading.
They should already have checkin/checkout enabled, the addition of
contribute means that dw will now do extra uploading and file renaming to
make the "rollback" pages that are part of contribute's functionality.

Did I read the help file right in that the DW people have to have contribute
installed on their machines as well?
That seems like a waste of two licenses.
But the dw people don't have the "use contribute" tickbox in thier
preferences so I guess it is required?

Only if it's MX 2004 AND they want to "admin" the contribute site.
They can work on the site with MX 2004 all they want without contribute
installed on their machine. They only need it to change contribute users or
    their permissions.

You only need contribute installed in order to actually edit with
contribute, or in order to "admin" contribute users.

You could have 50 dw users, and 1 contribute users.
Admin the contribute user from his install of Contribute, on his computer.

After the site is set up in contribute, next time a user of Dw MX and MX
2004 connect to it, dw will auto-detect that there are contribute users, and
will put up a nag screen to let dw auto-configure the checkin/checkout
    details.

    I think I get it.
I'll proceed without installing on the mx machine and try it.
    Thanks for the assist.
